Resources for 2015 Applicants

For those who couldn’t make it in person, or for anyone who needs a refresher, we’re happy to offer resources from our Fellowship Workshops online. Our workshops feature a presentation by a current ABOG Fellow, an overview of our review process by ABOG Executive Director Deborah Fisher and Programs Director Elizabeth Grady, and hands-on, small group workshops.

As a reminder, initial letters of interest for the ABOG Fellowship for Socially Engaged Art are due November 24, 2014. For more information on our eligibility requirements, selection criteria, and to access the online application form, click HERE.

Interested in joining a small working group? Working groups offer an opportunity for applicants to read and review each others’ proposals independently before submitting them to ABOG. If you’re interested in being placed in a group, contact: info@abladeofgrass.org. Sign ups for working groups closed on Thursday, November 13th.

Not sure if your project is a good fit? Have a question about eligibility? We’re here to answer your questions, too! Send a short description (3-5 sentences) of your project to info@abladeofgrass.org and we’ll send you some feedback within 2-3 business days. Please send us your final questions by 12pm on Friday, November 21st.

ABOGHeadshot_LeddySlagus bw
ABOG Fellows Norene Leddy and Liz Slagus have been collaborators since 2008 focusing on developing radical pedagogies that combine art, reproductive health, and participatory tools. Their collaborative project, SexEd, will initiate an artist residency at the school-based health center and develop an arts-based sexual health curriculum at Washington Irving High School Campus in New York City during the 2014-15 school year. SexEd will focus on key themes identified by students, teachers and health center staff on campus including HIV/AIDS, gender, healthy relationships, pleasure, and consent.

About Pablo Helguera
ABOGHeadshot_Helguera_CROP2
ABOG Fellow Pablo Helguera’s work takes a pedagogic approach to exploring the relationship between art and language, as well as the social dynamics of contemporary art in our daily lives. His School of Panamerican Unrest, a nomadic think tank facilitating discussions, screenings, performances and partnerships has been touring for over a decade and is one of the most far-reaching and enduring public art projects on record, crossing over 20,000 miles through 40 U.S. states. In addition to his art and music practice, Helguera is currently the Director of Adult and Academic Programs at MoMA. His ABOG Fellowship will support the installation of Librería Donceles, a non-profit itinerant bookstore of twenty thousand used Spanish-language books and accompanying programming, in Red Hook, Brooklyn in 2015.
