The Plug-In Studio’s Street Arcade to Launch in Chicago

The Street Arcade

The Street Arcade details

This summer, 2015 ABOG Fellows Steve Ciampaglia and Kerry Richardson worked with thirteen teen artists in Chicago to create original videogames based on issues important to them. Working in collaboration, the teens designed the gameplay, created retro 8-bit style artwork and programmed their games in Scratch. These unique art games address topics such as white privilege, racial profiling, immigration, peer pressure and bullying.

The games will be featured at a public event called “The Street Arcade,” a free, outdoor videogame event open to the public at Hyde Park Art Center on September 2, 2015. Arcade-style console controllers with red-knob joysticks and buttons will be set up along the street and the videogames will be projected onto the side of the building.

If you’re in Chicago, stop by to play the games and talk with the teen artists!

The Plug-In Studio, co-founded by artists and educators Steve Ciampaglia and Kerry Richardson, is a mobile studio that brings technology-based art-making to youth and families in underserved Chicago communities.
