The Plug-In Studio

ABOG Fellow for Socially Engaged Art

The Plug-In Studio is a new media art collective founded by Steve Ciampaglia and Kerry Richardson. They collaborate with young people and adults in underserved Chicago communities to make video games, interactive kinetic sculpture, augmented reality graffiti and other art with technology.

Their ABOG Fellowship supported The Street Arcade, a collaborative, community-based, new media art project that uses the medium of videogames as a platform for young artists to explore social issues important to them. The games were projected in storefront windows in Chicago’s Hyde Park and Washington Park neighborhoods where they could played by passersby, giving their teen creators an opportunity to engage their communities in dialogue.
