Dread Scott makes revolutionary art to propel history forward, working in a range of media including performance, photography, screen printing, video, installation and painting. He has exhibited and performed at numerous institutions, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, the Walker Art Center, and Brooklyn Academy of Music, and has been written about in numerous publications including The New York Times, Art in America, ArtNews, Artforum, Art21 Magazine, The Guardian, and Time.
Dread Scott’s upcoming community engaged performance project Slave Rebellion Reenactment (SRR), happening this November in New Orleans, will reenact the largest rebellion of enslaved people in American history as a way to celebrate self-determination and resilience through community. SRR was supported in 2015 by an A Blade of Grass Fellowship for Socially Engaged Art and is presented by Antenna in partnership with Prospect New Orleans.
